Overview
GrapheneDB supports Neo4j Community from the latest Long Term Support (LTS) release up to the newest versions. New Neo4j releases are usually available on GrapheneDB around two weeks after their official release. This article covers the versions we currently support and the driver versions that are compatible with each.
Supported Neo4j versions
Neo4j 2025.x and later
Since January 2025, Neo4j has followed calendar versioning (2025.01, 2025.02, …), with a new release roughly every month. These releases include the latest features, performance improvements and fixes. We recommend them for new projects.
Neo4j 5.26 LTS
Neo4j 5.26 is the current Long Term Support release and the last version of the 5.x series. It receives bug fixes and security patches until June 2028, which makes it a good choice if you prefer stability over new features.
Neo4j 4.4 LTS
We still support Neo4j 4.4, but we will stop supporting it soon: Neo4j ended its support for 4.4 on November 30, 2025, so it no longer receives bug fixes or security patches. If you are still running 4.4, we recommend upgrading to 5.26 LTS or a newer release.
Compatible driver versions
Using the right driver version is key to staying compatible and getting the latest features and security updates. Neo4j provides official drivers for Java, Python, JavaScript, .NET and Go.
| Neo4j version | Compatible driver versions |
|---|---|
| 2025.x and later | 6.x, 5.x, 4.4* |
| 5.26 LTS | 6.x, 5.x, 4.4 |
| 4.4 LTS | 6.x, 5.x, 4.4, 4.3, 4.2, 4.1, 4.0 |
* The 4.4 driver only receives bug fixes and security fixes. New features are not backported to it.
We recommend always using the latest driver release, so that all server features are available to your application. You can find more details in the official Neo4j supported versions article.
Bolt protocol compatibility
Bolt is the binary protocol that drivers use to communicate with the database. Drivers and servers negotiate the highest Bolt version they both support when they connect, so any compatible combination from the table above works out of the box.
You can find the full compatibility matrix in the official Neo4j docs.
