Neo4j supported versions

Overview

At GrapheneDB, we are committed to providing reliable support for a range of Neo4j versions. This article covers the Neo4j versions currently supported by us, along with the corresponding driver versions that are compatible with each. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your Neo4j deployment is both secure and optimized for performance.

Supported Neo4j versions

Neo4j 4.4

Neo4j 4.4 is a Long Term Support (LTS) release, providing stability and extended support for critical deployments. The LTS designation ensures that Neo4j 4.4 will receive extended support, including regular updates, bug fixes, and security patches.

Neo4j 5.x

Neo4j 5.x represents the latest generation of the database, delivering significant improvements in scalability, performance, and developer productivity.

Compatible driver versions

For each Neo4j version, using the appropriate driver version is crucial for maintaining compatibility and taking advantage of the latest features and security updates. Neo4j supports the following drivers: Java, Python, JavaScript, .NET and Go. Below are the supported driver versions for Neo4j 4.4 and 5.x.

Release Compatible driver versions
4.4 5.x, 4.4, 4.3, 4.2, 4.1, 4.0
5.x 5.x, 4.4

Bolt protocol compatibility

Bolt protocol is a highly efficient binary protocol that facilitates communication between the database and its drivers, designed to optimize query execution and network communication. It’s important to use the correct driver and database version combinations to ensure that the protocol operates smoothly.

Neo4j 4.4 uses Bolt Protocol v4.x. This version of the protocol is fully compatible with driver versions 4.4 and earlier (as far back as 4.0).

Neo4j 5.x introduces Bolt Protocol v5.x, which is compatible with drivers from the 5.x series and is backward-compatible with 4.4 drivers, allowing for smoother transitions between Neo4j versions.
