Maintenance Operations

Maintenance Operations

Maintenance Operations are scheduled routine maintenances required usually to apply security patches or updates to the underlying server. Please keep reading to understand how to manage and respond to Maintenance Operations for your databases.

Maintenance email

When a new Maintenance Operation is scheduled for your specific database, you will receive an email. This email is intended to keep you informed and prepared for the upcoming maintenance. Here’s what information it includes:

  • Description of the Maintenance Operation: A clear and detailed explanation of what the Maintenance Operation includes. This may include details such as the type of maintenance, the purpose of the operation, and any expected impacts on your database.
  • Link to the Console view: A direct link to the Console view, where you can find more detailed information about the scheduled maintenance. There you’ll be able to view specifics such as the scheduled date and time, the database/s affected, and actions you might need to take.
  • Link to our Documentation article: A link to this article, which provides details about the general maintenance process, the steps involved, and more detailed info on what actions you can take (for example how to opt-in).

By providing these details in the email, we want to ensure that you have all the information you need to understand the upcoming maintenance operation and make any necessary preparations.

Maintenance options

You’ll have two options for handling the upcoming maintenance operation.

Option 1: You can wait for automatic execution

If no action is taken from your end (opt-in), the maintenance operation will be executed by our team at some point after the deadline. This option requires no intervention from the your end, but may result in unexpected downtime if not prepared for.

Option 2: You can opt-in for scheduled maintenance

We recommend you to opt-in to the maintenance operation before the deadline. By doing so, you can ensure that you’re prepared for any downtime on you end, as well as allow the operation to run at a time that makes the most sense for your business operations.

How to opt-in for Maintenance Operation?

Opting in for a scheduled maintenance operation allows you to choose a convenient time for the maintenance to take place, minimizing any potential disruption to your business operations. Options you have to opt-in is via the Console or via the GDB Public API.

Here you will see all relevant details such as the description of maintenance, operation name, and the deadline. Finally, simply click the Opt-in now button on the right hand side and the operation will start.

This option requires no intervention from the your end, but may result in unexpected downtime if not prepared for.

How to follow the progress?

You will be able to follow the maintenance operation as any other operations in the Running Operation section.
